This presentation will focus on some recent experiences of  optimization application development in the OR Research and Development department at SAS Institute. Optimization has been a key area of R&D investment as SAS Institute has embarked on a long term strategy to expand its portfolio of software offerings beyond traditional analytical tools to include problem-specific business applications and industry solutions. This talk will describe a few instances of solution development as well as customer specific applications in which optimization has played a crucial role. For each example, we will discuss the business problem, the modeling and algorithmic complexities as well as implementation issues that were encountered. We will also highlight some practical lessons and best practices learned through these experiences.
