After merging with Denmark's major electricity companies, DONG Energy has entered into the next phase of its expansion: Internationalisation
While the company's market share both in gas and power in its domestic market is under constant scrutiny of competition authorities, the growth of the next years to come will be generated outside of Denmark.
Today DONG Energy's power and gas position in Germany is growing rapidly and has almost reached the size of the Danish and Swedish home markets. At the same time other foreign markets, such as the Dutch and the UK market are increasing in importance.
This rapid internationalisation process has triggered an increasing need for operational analysts, especially in the company's trading department - Energy Markets. Energy Markets is responsible for establishing and optimizing the company's gas, power and CO2 positions in all markets DONG Energy is operating in.
Operational analysts are used in different departments: Support to Trading departments, as portfolio analysts, system developers, pricing desks, market analysts - and in Operations.
One of the major challenges in recruitment was that the Energy Industry in Denmark is dominated by very few players, i.e. competencies needed were not available on the market. In many cases Energy Markets had to recruit Analysts from other industries or directly from University.
In my presentation I will shed light on Energy Markets recruiting strategy in general and Operations' in particular. Further, I will discuss some of the challenges, which come along with our recruiting strategy and how we try to address these challenges. Finally I will deliver a personal outlook as to how our recruiting strategy will change and how that will affect our demand for Operational analysts. |
